Research Management Committee (RMC)

Research Management Centre (RMC) of a university manages and facilitate R&D activities, manages intellectual properties, and collates information and supporting documents for ranking and rating purposes.

Roles of Research Management Centre are:

    • Manage external funded grant calls and projects including governmental, international, internal and industry funded research projects to ensure proper governance and internal controls are in place for proper spending of the grant amount, deliverables are met within the deadline and budget approved, proper documentation on the progress of the projects, and compliance to relevant regulatory requirements (if any).
    • Manage MyGrant portal and liaison with ministries for grant applications, submissions, monitoring, and reporting.
    • Manage internal research grant applications and projects including ensuring deliverables achieved, half-yearly reports provided and spending within budget approved.
    • Support researchers on claims submission, purchases requests, billings and payments follow ups.
    • Assist in sourcing and annoucing external research grants opportunities.
    • Collate information and supporting documents for ranking and rating exercises include MyRA, SETARA, ACU etc. which participated by APU including coordinate the data collection with various departments and schools, review the data and evidence submitted, and communicate on timelines and queries with governmental ministries to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timely data are submitted.
    • Coordinate the ethics approval.
    • Submit and follow up on intellectual property applications from researchers to Malaysia IP Office.
    • Collate and process applications/documents relating to academic staff on research track, research centre and research interest group.

Each research project awarded will be supported and monitored by the RMC when a research agreement is signed, including the following:

    • Follow-up on billings of the research project with funders.
    • Review of the purchase requests, claim forms, and research assistants’ employment documents to ensure accuracy and completeness of information and supporting documents provided.
    • Monitor the fund utilisation to ensure it is spent within the allocation budget and vote allowed.
    • Review the accounts periodically to ensure accuracy and complete disclosure of expenses spent and funds received, and no over-spending of research grants.
    • Monitor the project deliverables to ensure that they are achieved as per agreement.
    • Monitor the timely completion of the research project.

Report to funders and APU management on a periodic basis.

Research integrity is defined as a set of individual and collective behaviours that define good research practice:

    • Honesty in all aspects of research including gathering data, reporting findings and acknowledging the work of others.
    • Rigour in using appropriate research methods in line with prevailing disciplinary norms and standards, adhering to an agreed protocol, drawing interpretations from the research and communicating the results.
    • Transparency and open communication in declaring potential competing interests, the analysis and interpretation of data and making research findings widely available.
    • Care and respect for all research subjects, users and beneficiaries.
    • Accountability of funders, employers and researchers to collectively create a positive and inclusive research environment.
